Privacy Policy
Last updated: March 2026
Your privacy is fundamental to SafeSpace. We built this platform with anonymity at its core. This policy explains what we collect, what we don't, and how your data is protected.
1. What We Collect
- Email address — used only for authentication (sign up / sign in)
- Posts, moods, and reactions — the content you choose to share
- Anonymous avatar and color preferences
- Streak data and posting patterns (dates only, not content analysis)
- Premium subscription status
2. What We Don't Collect
- ✕We do NOT collect: Your real name
- ✕We do NOT collect: Your phone number
- ✕We do NOT collect: Your social media accounts
- ✕We do NOT collect: Your browsing history
- ✕We do NOT collect: Any identifying information beyond your email
- ✕We do NOT store: Your location or IP address. We briefly detect your country (not exact location) when you open the app to show you the correct currency for pricing and local crisis helpline numbers. This information is used in real-time and is never saved to our servers.
3. How We Protect Your Anonymity
We do not link your posts to your email or identity in any public way. Other users only see a randomly assigned emoji avatar and color. Your email is never displayed, searchable, or shared.
4. How Your Data Is Stored
All data is stored securely using Supabase (built on PostgreSQL) with row-level security policies. Authentication is handled by Supabase Auth with encrypted tokens. Data is hosted on secure, HTTPS-encrypted servers.
5. AI & Data Usage
SafeSpace uses AI (OpenAI) for content moderation, mood coaching, and weekly mood reports. Here's how your data is handled:
- AI moderation processes your text in real-time but does not store conversations
- Mood coach responses are saved alongside your post for your reference
- Weekly reports are generated from your posts and stored for your viewing only
- AI processing is done via API calls — your data is not used to train AI models
6. Crisis Detection & Safety
When our AI detects content that suggests a user may be in crisis, we create a private safety flag. This is used solely to show you check-in messages and crisis resources.
Crisis flags are stored to ensure your safety but are never shared publicly. They are visible only to you and used to trigger gentle check-in banners with support resources.
7. Third Parties
We use the following third-party services:
- Supabase — authentication and database
- OpenAI — AI moderation and mood coaching
- Stripe — secure payment processing for subscriptions
- ipapi.co — country detection for pricing and crisis helplines (no data stored)
- Vercel — hosting and deployment
• We will never sell your personal data. Ever.
8. Country Detection
When you open SafeSpace, we use a third-party service (ipapi.co) to detect your country based on your IP address. This is used solely to display the correct subscription pricing in your local currency and to show crisis helpline numbers relevant to your country.
We do not store your IP address, exact location, or country code in our database. This detection happens in your browser and the information is discarded when you close the app.
9. Data Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time from your profile settings. This permanently removes your posts, reactions, comments, mood reports, and profile information. This action cannot be undone.
10. Contact
If you have questions about your privacy or would like to request data deletion, please contact us through the app.
